Captain Blades
Kurt

Captain Kurt Blades was born in Sitka. He was raised on a float house and grew up on the waters of the Inside Passage. He started commercial salmon fishing at nine years old with his dad and has been a Bering Sea crab fisherman for the past four winters. He also spent six summers in the charter sport fishing industry. His hobbies include snowboarding, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking.

Certifications: Certified diver, advanced marine fire fighting, 100 tonne captain's license, 200 tonne mate's license

Guide / Naturalist: Bri D.

Guide Bri D.

Bri grew up in the Puget Sound region. Her love for the outdoors started in high school when she became part of King County Search and Rescue. After years of climbing, hiking, and skiing Bri found her real passion in kayaking. She has been a river, kayak, snowshoe and climbing guide in the Cascades and is an aspiring to own her own kayak guide company someday. Her background and interests include environmental science and a love of engaging people in their wild, natural surroundings. She has guided throughout the Pacific Northwest, and has guided for the Salish Lodge, Seattle Raft and Kayak and Snoqualmie Pass.

Deckhand: Mike McC.

Mike M

Mike McCabe was born in Bettendorf, Iowa and raised on the Mississippi River. He’s spent the last  seven years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the Captain onboard Milwaukee’s premier touring vessels, the Edelweiss boats. Mike also keeps busy running sail charters and shipwreck dive charters on Lake Michigan.  In his free time, he enjoys competitive sailing, fishing, and traveling. He’s looking forward to a great summer in Alaska on the M/V Sikumi.

Steward (June/July): Katy S.

Steward Katey S.

Katy was born in the Seattle area and is now attending college at the University of St. Thomas, in St.Paul, Minnesota. During her free time she enjoys being active, enjoying her friend’s company and sunshine. Her favorite part about Alaska is the wildlife and kayaking near the glaciers. She is looking forward to meeting new people this summer aboard the M/V Sikumi.

2010 Steward (July/August): Lauren L.

Steward Katey S.

Lauren was born in Seattle, Washington and will be a senior at Western Washington University this coming fall. Her love for the outdoors started young when she would go camping and fishing with her family. Some of her favorite activities are playing soccer, volleyball, biking, hiking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, rock climbing, and hanging out with her friends. She can’t wait to make new friends and explore the Alaskan waters while aboard the M/V Sikumi.
