    Alaska Magazine

We were very excited to welcome Alaska Magazine aboard the Sikumi for our summer solstice cruise in June. The Crew are thrilled to be featured in the October edition of the magazine, detailing the cruise adventures and activities. The cruise was one of our most fantastic of the early season, providing great weather, lots of whale sightings, and spectacular Halibut fishing. The guests and crew of the Sikumi spent the night of Solstice (the longest day) on a small island beach near Montague Island. A bonfire and cold beverages accompanied us through our late night celebration.

The October issue of Alaska Magazine should be on newstands in the US September 25th.

    A Word from Captain Mercury
    Captain Mercury

Captain Mercury Avatar recently gave us an update on the 2006 season.

Captain Mercury is absolutely thrilled with the crew and their ability to work together. This year has seen the addition of an extra crew member, which makes everyone’s job a little easier. Carlee (Naturalist & Guide), Gabriel (Gourmet Chef), Henry (Shipmate), and Amy (Shipmate) have been blessings to the captain and all of the ship’s guests.

Silver Salmon have been running strong, providing great fishing right from the deck of the Sikumi. Mercury also says that the Halibut fishing has been phenomenal this season. Gabriel landed a two hundred pounder three weeks ago (the crew is still enjoying the catch). Earlier this moonth, as the boat was passing through Fredrick Sound, the crew and passengers were treated to an amazing Humpback Whaleshow, in which nearly a dozen whales were seen breaching and bubble net feeding. Mercury says the Humpback Whales have been “particularly dense” in and around Frederick Sound this season. The Glaciers in Tracy Arm have active this year, calving massive hunks of ice into the ocean on a regular basis. Romance has been flowing and it is rumored that a certain Captain proposed to his lady in front of the beautiful Sawyer Glacier.

With such a great season Captain and Crew are getting excited for next year and the new adventures to be had.

Unique Creative Workshop Cruise aboard the Sikumi
    Alaskan Dogwood Flower

Working with the web designers in charge of the Custom Alaska Cruises website, we will be offering a creative workshop cruise in May of 2007.

Kelvin is in charge of all of the photography and design elements for Custom Alaska Cruises, as well as dozens of other websites. He will be offering guidance and instruction on digital photographic manipulation, focusing on Photoshop and its application for practical use.

Luke Chambers is a writer working for Custom Alaska Cruises. He does all of the text for the Sikumi website, as well as a number of other sites in the Alaska travel industry. During the same cruise, he will be working in conjunction with Kelvin, leading creative writing workshops, concentrating on the splendor of the wilderness surrounding you.

Both of these workshops are based on the passengers' experience and knowledge. Kelvin and Luke will work with you, enhancing your creative experience in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

    Onboard Toiletries offer
    Baudelaire Soaps

We have had a number of compliments this year on the Baudelaire toiletry products that we provide our guests. Baudelaire is a company that imports fine soaps and body care products. Their popularity on the boat has been so great that many guests have inquired about getting the soap for themselves to enjoy at home. The Baudelaire products provide that extra bit of luxury that Sikumi guests have come to expect.

All newsletter subscribers and guests are entitled to a 10% discount on on Baudelaire products.

Use the promotional code "Sikumi" when ordering to recieve your discount.

2006 Season over, 2007 Season booking now
    2007 Cruises posted

The 2006 cruise season is almost over and our best one yet. The Sikumi embarked for Seattle Monday on its last cruise, so we’re turning our attention to 2007. The website has recently experienced a surge of traffic and a flurry of inquiries for next season. After our first cruise of the season from Seattle to Alaska we will be conducting all of our cruises from Petersburg, Alaska. Petersburg allows access to the Tongass National Forest, Frederick Sound and some of the most spectacular tidewater glaciers in Alaska.

A number of staterooms have already been sold for next season, and have several more reservations pending. If you are interested in cruising with us in 2007, now is the time to act. There are currently several slots available for whole boat charters and mixed group cruises. These openings will disappear quickly as we continue to accept bookings.
