Juneau, Alaska

Located on the Gastineau Channel in Alaska's Panhandle lies the capital of Alaska, Juneau. Juneau was born when Joseph Juneau and Richard Harris discovered gold in 1880.

Juneau was primarily a mining town until the 1940's. Modern day Juneau consists of roughly 30,000 people and relies heavily upon commercial fishing and tourism for revenue. The University of Alaska Southeast is also located in Juneau.
