  • We cater to you and your needs. Food is comfort, thats why we find out your favorites before you cruise with us.

  • Go out on activities (Hiking, Kayaking, Fishing, Beachcombing, Wildlife viewing etc...) for as long as you want. We have the ability to break up groups if need be. You will always come back to warm cookies or another tasty treat after.

  • You really get to know the crew and they become like family.

  • You get to catch fish as well as being involved with throwing out and pulling in Crab/Shrimp pots. We encourage you to be involved.

  • If guests have extreme food allergies our chef will work something out (and make your day).

  • We encourage guests to go up to the Wheelhouse to chat with the Captain and swap stories.

  • You can eat fresh chowder on the front deck ( brought up by a crew member) while watching a Glacier calve or a glorious sunset.

  • With only 4 rooms there is only a small amount of people on the boat. Compared to thousands on the large cruise liners. You get a closer more intimate Alaska experience.

Cruise a small ship in Alaska
Small Cruise Ships vs. Large Cruise Liners

The vast majority of visitors to Alaska arrive on large cruise ships that offer plenty of entertainment onboard, but don't offer too much in the way of truly experiencing the beauty and wilderness of Alaska. Small boat cruising allows you to get into parts of Alaska that very few, if any people have ever stepped, kayaked or fished. With Custom Alaska Cruises, the small ship M.V. Sikumi gives her passengers an up-close look and intimate experience with the state of Alaska.

Without a doubt, cruising aboard the M.V. Sikumi is a completely personalized experience. From planning to cruising, Custom Alaska Cruises collaborates with you to make sure you get exactly what you want out of your cruise. Small ship guests know that there is a much better way to truly experience their surroundings than onboard a mega-ship.

Many of the large ships that cruise Alaska's waters carry over 3,000 passengers. The immense size of the ship and huge number of passengers greatly reduces the Alaskan experience for visitors. Our four staterooms provide comfortable and cozy accommodations for 8-10 (max 12) passengers, ensuring a personal and intimate Alaskan experience.

The diverse and exotic wildlife of central and southeast Alaska is one of a kind. The intimate atmosphere of the small cruise ship "M.V. Sikumi" is an ideal way to get up close and personal with wildlife, whether we find a good fishing hole for our guests or visit a beach that is frequented by bears. Whale, porpoise and sea otter sightings are also a common occurrence aboard the Sikumi.

Enjoy fine dining as our chef will prepare the fresh catches of the day. Our guests enjoy fishing for shrimp, halibut and salmon; and one of the highlights of the day is sitting down in the Sikumi's dining room amongst friends and family to enjoy an elegant and intimate dinner.

Your imagination is the only limitation for what you do on your cruise. The much smaller size of our luxury cruise boat allows for travel into the most remote and inaccessible places in Alaska. From the very early planning stages of your cruise, your wishes and desires are of the utmost importance to us and our crew. We will do everything in our power to make sure your cruise aboard the M.V. Sikumi is one you'll never forget.

ALASKAN SMALL CRUISE TESTIMONIALS

“What a wonderful experience! Could not have imagined anything as enjoyable as our time on the Sikumi - nature played her part in it of course, but this marvelous boat and her exceptional crew made this a most memorable, happy time."

Alaska Small Ship Cruise Reviews

"Kayaking with the whales, icebergs, and seals was a one of a kind experience. Also seeing a moose with her calf…the whales filled us with awe. The dinners and wine were a perfect end to an amazing day…landing a 73 lb. halibut by far the biggest fish ever caught…We will have great stories for our friends and family. We are all leaving hooked on Alaska! We loved our wonderful cruise. Never have we been so well taken care of."

Alaska Small Ship Cruise Reviews

“We came aboard hoping to see a glacier, a whale, and to catch a fish. Everything else would be icing on the cake… our expectations were met and exceeded everyday. Several times we saw whales breaching on 3 sides of the ship, we saw a glacier calve right in front of us, and we got a porpoise escort twice. We saw more waterfalls in 6 days than in our whole lives. We kayaked among icebergs, caught 4 kinds of fish, crab, shrimp, 2 octopuses (octopi?), starfish, and hermit crabs. We saw black, cinnamon, and grizzly bears. We hiked on lonely beaches and found shells and sea glass."

May I take this opportunity to comment on the trip.  It was fabulous!  It was great to go up the narrow bay to the Tracy Arm Glacier accompanied by orcas.  We saw a tremendous amount of calving from a short distance, a location to which no large boat could dare venture.  Our stop at Baranof Hot Springs was another treat people on the “Big Boys” could not enjoy.  But the other features of the trip were really made possible by your amazing crew.

My son-in-law Rob’s step father is a chef and he said it is very unusual for a really good cook to be able to bake.  But Gabriel presented us with fresh bread, muffins, pastries and desserts to go with his marvelous meals.  The seafood we caught, the berries we picked all were turned into great, beautifully presented meals.

Alaska Small Ship Cruise Reviews

We have been trying to get our feet back on the ground after a most amazing trip aboard the Sikumi -- I am not sure that I have the words to adequately express the extent to which we enjoyed our cruise, and I wish that I were handwriting this message on exquisite paper worthy of the sentiment.  Certainly, Alaska and all it offers in the way of natural features, beauty, and wildlife provided the backdrop, but experiencing it aboard the Sikumi provided an extraordinary adventure for all of us.
